Endothermic / Exothermic

The NGSS describe that chemical reactions can either store energy (endothermic) or release energy (exothermic). Exothermic and endothermic reactions are addressed in the performance expectations that look at the change in energy in components of a system while considering the inputs and outputs of energy of the system.

Many vocabulary words do not explicitly appear in the standards, because the NGSS focus on a deep understanding of the concept behind a vocabulary word. Vocabulary can be introduced and applied, as needed, for instructional purposes.
