Classroom Sample Assessment Tasks for middle and high school grades are now available. These sample tasks, written by secondary science and math teachers, provide examples of how content and practices from science and mathematics can be assessed together in classrooms.

The purpose of the comparison tool is to accompany a standards crosswalk document to help users gain a more thorough understanding of how two sets of standards compare on various aspects of knowledge development.

More than 11,000 teachers met in Boston, April 3 through 6, for the National Science Teachers Association’s (NSTA) 2014 conference on science education. The NSTA used the convention to introduce a Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Hub resource center for teachers. 

The Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products (EQuIP) Rubric for Lessons & Units: Science was released today. The Rubric provides criteria by which to measure the alignment and overall quality of lessons and units with respect to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). 

On Feb. 18-19, the NGSS Network held the first NGSS Annual Leadership Meeting for State Teams and National Partners in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 140 education, policy and business leaders gathered to discuss promising practices and develop plans for implementation of the NGSS in their states. 

We sat down with Heidi Schweingruber, the deputy director of the Board on Science Education at the National Research Council (NRC), to discuss the role of the NRC’s fidelity review of the NGSS and the process involved.

Nevada has officially adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). With yesterday’s unanimous vote, the state board of education made Nevada the tenth NGSS adopter.
